Overview

Universal Technical Institute is seeking a highly skilled and motivated EEIT Instructor to deliver hands-on, career-focused training in electrical systems and low-voltage technologies. This role is essential to preparing students for success in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical careers.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in electrical theory and practical experience, combined with a passion for teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

 

Education & Certifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Vocational/technical teaching certification preferred
• Minimum of 4 years as a journeyman or licensed technician OR 3 years as a certified vocational/technical instructor
• NCCER ICTP certification (or willingness to obtain)
• OSHA-10 and NFPA-70E safety compliance required

 

Technical Expertise:

Residential/Commercial Electrical Experience:
Minimum 2–4 years; journeyman or licensed technician preferred


Low-Voltage Systems Experience (3–4 years):
• Fire Alarm Systems
• Security Systems (Access Control, CCTV)
• Audio/Video Systems
• Wireless Communication & Broadband
• Network Cabling & Media Management


Proficiency in:
• Electrical Theory (AC/DC circuits)
• National Electrical Code (NEC)
• Conduit bending, wiring, grounding, and bonding
• Electrical troubleshooting and test equipment

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom and lab instruction for electrical and low-voltage courses.
  • Teach modules including electrical theory, wiring, conduit bending, safety standards, and network systems.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA-70E, OSHA-10, and NCCER standards.
  • Mentor students in practical applications and troubleshooting techniques.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certifications

Abilities

  • Must be able to instruct two consecutive courses per workday; number of hours will vary based on campus location and program (applies to campuses with ADT II curriculum)
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds for short periods of time during the workday
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for short periods of time during the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn, and reason for all the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.

 

Working Conditions

  • Majority of time spent in education environment
  • Work will consist an 8-hour day, 75% teaching and 25% administration
  • Appropriate safety measures must be followed
  • Exposure to chemicals that are standard to the industry
