Overview

The Vice President, Division Controller plays a critical leadership role in the financial management of the division, working in close partnership with the Division President and the Senior Vice President of Finance. This position is responsible for overseeing the division’s accounting operations, including General Accounting, Campus Accounting, Fixed Asset Accounting, and Accounts Payable. Additionally, the role includes oversight of student collections and the accounting processes related to Financial Aid.

 

Pay Range: $158,000.00 - $180,000.00

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Division accounting team which is comprised of division specific general accounting, campus accounting, fixed asset accounting, and accounts payable processing
  • Oversee and conduct the month-end close process for the division, ensuring that all transactions, assets and liabilities are properly recorded for the division each month
  • Design and implement accounting systems and processes to effectively and efficiently process financial transactions
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement by championing new technologies to facilitate a more streamlined month-end close process
  • Interface with IT on all systems and software feeding the general ledger, accounts payable and payroll
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret accounting information in order to measure the division’s operating results in terms of profitability, capital spend, performance against budget, along with other matters affecting the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness
  • Oversee the accounting for Financial Aid and student collection efforts
  • Collaborate with the division President and SVP of Finance in establishing major economic objectives and policies and prepares reports that outline the division’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
  • Monitor and advise on major contracts, campus and new initiative performance, new investments, and other strategic activities to ensure accounting policies are properly accounted for and contemplated as appropriate
  • Support financial audits by independent accounting firms
  • Provide the division management team with the appropriate financial and operating information
  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance, or related field (required)
  • CPA License (required)
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in senior level accounting positions (required); Increasing levels of responsibility (preferred)
  • Four (4) years recent Vice President of Accounting or Controller experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of SEC rules and/or Acquisition Accounting (preferred)
  • Experience leading and managing a large team (required)
  • Specific experience in companies dealing with annual revenues exceeding $500 million (preferred)

Skills

  • Advanced technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) for financial modeling, reporting, and presentations
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems and tools, including PeopleSoft, FloQast, OneStream, and UKG, with the ability to optimize processes and drive efficiencies
  • Set department-level strategic direction and influences organizational priorities
