Overview

The Solution Architect is a technical leader responsible for designing, developing and leading the implementation of technology architectures and frameworks that align with UTI’s strategy and vision. Furthermore, this role is responsible for providing technology guidance to IT executives and business partners and is a key contributor in developing and maintaining a software development and applications delivery technology framework.

  • Salary: Competitive range of $130,000 - $165,000 per year.  This range reflects the budgeted compensation for this role.  The final offer will depend on experience, skills, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance to IT and business executives based upon both short and long-term business objectives
  • Key contributor in the development of long-term technology architecture strategies focused on software development and applications delivery in support of key corporate strategies with an emphasis on ability to scale
  • Leads highly complex design and development efforts by effectively communicating technology vision & roadmap to keep team members informed and aligned
  • Responsible for providing technical direction and leadership in the architecture, design, development, and deployment of technology frameworks
  • Cultivates a culture of security while providing technical guidance and mentoring to the software development and applications delivery teams on security best practices.
  • Works closely with IT Security to respond to and address security concerns
  • Partners with IT leadership in the review of technology requests at the beginning of the funnel
  • to assist in defining the business problem to recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Develops IT architecture, cloud policies, and operating standards. Monitors compliance and influences changes to standards when necessary.

  • Continually researches current and emerging technologies and when appropriate builds

    business cases to propose changes where needed. If implemented, develops mastery skills

    prior to deployment of new technologies, while developing a training plan for technical staff.

  • Closely collaborates with IT leadership to develop enterprise technology roadmaps,

    modernization plans and cost management strategies

  • Builds and/or directs the development of software development templates/patterns/techniques

    and partners with solution delivery teams to adopt as a means of standardization and

    streamlining the development process.

  • Communicates technology architecture to stakeholders and collaborates and coordinates with

    existing domain technical subject matter experts in the formalization and adoption of IT

    development standards

  • Assures solutions not only are a fit for the specific business purpose but also closely align with

    the technical standards and guidelines.

  • Supports the architectural aspects of all application projects within the IT portfolio

  • Directs the identification and recommendation of appropriate solutions, upgrades,

    replacements, or decommissioning options incorporating business and technology productivity,

    usability, and total cost of ownership

  • Serves as the Product Owner for IT Technical Debt by maintaining a backlog and collaborating

    with key stakeholders to prioritize

  • Proactively collaborates with teams to maintain supported version and patch levels with intense

    focus on security standards and optimization.

  • Assess the business impact of technical decisions and makes recommendations as appropriate

    to mitigate risk.

  • Serves as a consultant to all IT Software Development and Applications Delivery teams, and as

    needed, will take on development activities for new and highly complex solution development.

  • Evaluates 3rd Party Software solutions for technology architecture and systems integrations

    capabilities and provides recommendations to leadership.

  • Contributes to dynamic and high performing team growth through periodic coaching to

    subordinate and peer positions and serves as a technical lead to other team members. Is

    looked upon to be a mentor across teams.

  • Acts as a change champion and supervises other subordinate employees if called upon

  • Assists IT leadership in evaluating the skills of hiring candidates and current Engineering staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • 7-10+ years of information technology integration (or related) experience
  • 2+ years of IT leadership or project management experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft tech stack and Azure
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent industry certification and experience
  • Consulting (or related) experience strongly preferred
  • Professional and technical certifications preferred
  • Expert knowledge of holistic technology integration solutions
  • Strong knowledge of system architecture frameworks, including on premise and cloud
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, NIST, etc.) as they relate to data integrity and privacy

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced system design and development skills, preferably with Microsoft products
  • Proficient with Windows OS, SQL, web services, ETL, and MS Office technologies
  • Adept at applying disparate elements of information to solve complex problems
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are essential
  • Competent in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
  • Consistent in providing appropriate guidance while maintaining confidentiality (as necessary) and professional decorum
