Overview

The Director, Facilities is responsible for overseeing and managing the national facilities portfolio for all divisions. This leadership role ensures that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and functionality, while strategically guiding facilities-level projects from inception through completion. The Director partners with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and institutional leadership to ensure the alignment of physical spaces with organizational goals and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a facilities management strategy to maintain high campus standards while optimizing expenditures on owned assets and leased facilities
    • Partner with campus facilities leadership to meet individual campus needs that align with best practices
    • Leverage local, regional, and national vendor relationships to maximize the value of products and services
    • Assist in the evaluation of potential facilities management programs or services, and adoption/implementation thereof as needed
    • Partner with campus stakeholders and Finance on facilities budgets
    • Integrate newly acquired companies/facilities into the facilities management strategy
    • Develop an understanding of the facilities and operational needs of all divisions to assist in the optimization of space management
    • Support and facilitate efforts to enhance campus safety and security across the portfolio
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on vendor issues and project accounting
  • Assist with developing metrics for measuring success to present to senior leadership
  • Serve as campus lead for all facilities-level projects
    • Solicit, negotiate, and assist in the finalization of bids and contracts
    • Facilitate and oversee the process to obtain all required entitlements
    • Establish an appropriate mechanism and cadence to keep key stakeholders informed of project status
    • Ensure compliance with government regulations (Federal, State, and local jurisdictions)
    • Build and maintain contractor relationships
  • Collaborate with Finance to establish, update and track capital project budgets
  • Procure additional local, regional, or national resources as required and approved to facilitate projects and initiatives
  • Provide support, guidance and oversight of established campus facilities teams

 

  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, business administration or other related field (required)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in commercial facilities management with five (5) years in leadership (required)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of capital project management experience (required)
  • Experience working in an educational or multi-location corporate environment (preferred)

 

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, infrastructure, sustainability practices, and regulatory compliance

  • Occasional (less than 50% of workday)

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
  • This position is designated as Remote; Employees must meet minimum technical standards for eligibility and participation. Work environments may include exposure to student learning environments with a variety of conditions. Employees must be able to follow all safety precautions including the use of personal-protective equipment. Employees must also be able to adhere to site-specific safety procedures.
  • Overnight and/or Local travel required (up to 60%)
