Overview

The Senior Business Analyst - Business Intelligence is responsible for eliciting, organizing, analyzing, and documenting requirements across project teams in support of strategic business analytics and data platform modernization initiatives. As a key liaison between the business units and the IT Business Intelligence, Analytics and Data Management teams, the Senior Business Analyst ensures that the scope of work requested, including enhancements, defects, and new requests, is clearly documented, communicated, and validated. They should possess a blend of technical knowledge, business acumen, data analysis, and interpersonal skills 
 
Working closely with analysts, engineers, architects and stakeholders, the Senior Business Analyst plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and deploying analytics solutions. The role also involves internal product ownership responsibilities for IT-driven products and may be asked to lead projects and mentor other Business Analysts. 
 
The ideal candidate is curious and driven, has strong analytical skills, and the ability to leverage their understanding of analytics technologies and its application to solve business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary liaison with business stakeholders to analyze the needs of various functional business areas, capture requirements, perform data analysis, and define key metrics for analytical solutions that enable business leaders to identify opportunities, make informed decisions and implement effective strategies. 
  • Defines detailed functional, system (non-functional), user and reporting requirements that may include but is not limited to: Use Cases, Business Requirements (BRD), Logical Models, Process Flow Diagrams, Report Specifications and Data Mapping & Flow Diagrams. 
  • Documents requirements, scope and objectives culminating in the creation and maintenance of epics, features, and user stories and formulates system solutions. 
  • Collect, analyze, and visualize data via SQL for project requirements analysis and solution design. 
  • Traces requirements from scope through design, development, and testing. 
  • Collaborates with Developers, Engineers and Architects to ensure accurate design and implementation of business/system requirements. 
  • Collaborates with Quality Assurance to ensure comprehensive requirements-based testing is achieved. 
  • Participates in the testing phase of new systems or modifications to ensure the final product meets the business’s needs and expectations. 
  • Performs feasibility analysis, scopes projects, and works with the project management team to prioritizes deliverables. 
  • Conducts workshops and training sessions to explain new systems or modifications in the existing system to other team members. 
  • Plays a crucial role in change management by defining the business case for change, assessing the impact of the change, and capturing and documenting requirements. 
  • Conducts insightful, ad hoc analysis to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues. 
  • Participates in establishing practices, templates, tools, techniques, and partnerships to build and mature these capabilities. 

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a business or IT discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Requires 7+ years of relevant work experience and growth; typically within IT or working in relevant positions within business units
  • Prefer 4+ years relevant experience in Business & Data Analysis
  • Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines / processes
  • Possesses an understanding of IT’s systems and capabilities.
  • Varied experience over different companies, projects, and / or applications
  • Familiar with gathering use cases or user stories through interviews, observations, and interpretation of policies and procedures
  • Significant experience turning use cases into functional requirements
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated use of personal computer software applications including Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)

Skills

  • Solid experience writing SQL queries is required
  • Solid Data Analysis skills using Qlik, Tableau, PowerBI or similar technologies
  • Ability to perform all duties of Business Analyst 
  • Ability to analyze business partner’s operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine opportunities to automate processes and functions.
  • Ability to assist the business process redesign and documentation as needed for new technology.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment as part of both Business Analysis and Scrum teams
  • Ability to comply with UTI’s Agile, Scrum, and other software development lifecycle practices and standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
