The Director of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing the management and strategic direction of an organization's HRIS, including but not limited to the development, testing, modification, and optimizing of the HRIS. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the HR technology infrastructure aligns with the overall business strategy and meets the needs of the HR department and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities

Strategic Vision and Alignment

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the HRIS: Ensure it supports the organization's goals and enhances HR operations.
  • Assess organizational needs: Oversee the execution of improvements to create efficiencies.
  • Support and drive reliability: Integrate the HRIS with other business processes as needed.
  • Proactively anticipate updates: Remain prepared for changes in functionality.

Operational Excellence and Compliance

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate HRIS activities: Maximize various systems and maintain functions that support Human Resources and Finance.
  • Conduct system audits: Ensure compliance with labor laws and data protection regulations.
  • Oversee HR software systems: Ensure effective utilization to improve HR processes and employee experience.
  • Validate compliance: Ensure HRIS systems comply with labor, tax, and data protection regulations.
  • Manage data integrity: Establish validation and correction procedures for internal database files, tables, and reports.

User Support and Team Development

  • Act as the point of contact: Support internal system users and external HRIS vendors.
  • Collaborate with departments: Work with Payroll, Human Resources, and IT to drive process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain reports: Create standard and custom queries or dashboards.
  • Establish a high-performance team: Utilize effective training, performance management, and career-development activities.
  • Recognize and reward contributions: Acknowledge employee achievements and maintain motivation.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma / GED (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human Resources, Information Technology or other related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of eight (8) years experience with HRIS and payroll systems (required)
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in an HR/Technology leadership role (required)
  • Direct experience with UKG (required)
  • Highly skilled in SQL and experience producing written system process documentation for systems customers (preferred)

Expertise and Leadership

  • Strong background in project management, systems integration, and cross-functional leadership: Leverage these skills to guide HRIS initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in HRIS platforms (e.g., UKG): Utilize this knowledge for effective system implementation and integration.
  • Knowledge of data architecture, HR data management, and data governance: Ensure robust data handling and governance practices.

Operational Support and Compliance

  • Support enterprise-level implementations, policy harmonization, and data governance: Drive consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools, dashboards, and HR analytics: Enhance decision-making with comprehensive data insights.
  • Conduct system audits and ensure compliance: Maintain adherence to labor laws and data protection regulations.

User Engagement and Problem-Solving

  • Actively assist with employee needs: Provide support and address concerns promptly.
  • Understand implications of new information: Use insights for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Exceptional listening and conflict resolution skills: Foster a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Present ideas clearly: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Drive results in a fast-paced environment: Maintain focus and accountability.
