The Director of Business Continuity cultivates and leads business continuity and disaster recovery strategies to ensure the organization's ability to maintain essential functions during (and after) a disaster, crisis, or other disruptions. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive business continuity plans, coordinating with various departments, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and future-proofing the business. This role requires strategic vision and strong leadership to safeguard operations and maintain resilience.

• Salary of $145,000-$181,000/year depending on experience

Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities & Deliverables

  • Develop and lead the business continuity strategy in alignment with UTI's mission and goals
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for all business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives
  • Design, implement, and manage the business continuity and disaster recovery plans across all UTI campuses and administrative offices
  • Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify critical functions and resources
  • Collaborate with senior management to prioritize business continuity efforts and allocate resources effectively
  • Establish and lead a crisis management team to respond to emergencies and disruptions
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, communication strategies, and recovery operations
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on business continuity plans and procedures
  • Foster a culture of preparedness and resilience throughout the organization
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices related to business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Stay current with evolving industry trends, threats, and regulatory requirements
  • Regularly test and update business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure their effectiveness
  • Conduct post-incident reviews and implement lessons learned to improve future response efforts
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding business continuity matters
  • Coordinate with IT, facilities, legal, HR, and other departments to ensure comprehensive and integrated business continuity plans
  • Establish/maintain a high-performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics.
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Information Technology, or a related field (required); Master's degree (preferred)
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or a related field, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role
  • Knowledge base and experience should include disaster recovery planning and crisis mitigation (required)
  • Basic to intermediate familiarity with business continuity software and tools, as well as basic IT infrastructure knowledge (preferred)
  • Intermediate experience using Office productivity software (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) to include document formatting, organization, collaboration and review, data management, formulas, functions and pivot tables/charts, and presentation development, inclusive of multimedia, links and embedded collateral (required)

  • Expertise in identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities that could impact business operations
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey plans, procedures, and updates to stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address and mitigate risks and disruptions
  • Capability to work closely with various departments to integrate business continuity plans across the organization
  • Proficiency in managing crises, including developing response strategies and leading recovery effort
  • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are essential and multiple projects are worked simultaneously
  • Ability to gain, understand and apply information and data as it relates essential functions of the position
  • Ability to foster long-term relationships with stakeholders

Work Environment

  • Local and overnight travel - up to 15%
