Overview

This position is responsible for supporting in-house legal teams in a wide range of corporate legal, compliance and regulatory projects that have strategic impact to the business. Paralegals provide comprehensive legal support for transactional, regulatory, compliance, litigation, and other initiatives. It is imperative this position stay abreast of compliance functions pertaining to education. This role works with government departments and accreditors, providing reporting and information as needed. Paralegals collaborate extensively with the Chief Legal Officer’s Executive Assistant, providing backup and continuity of administrative support to the legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical and research support services to attorneys
    • Maintain corporate entity records, overseeing the contract database and files
    • Ensure compliance with statutory filing requirements for corporate entities by performing timely filings
    • Handle and respond to subpoenas, managing the corporate intellectual property portfolio
    • Address auditor documentation requests
    • Oversee approved marketing and admissions materials
    • Provide scheduling and calendar management for in-house attorneys, liaising with external counsel as needed
    • Research, analyze, and document licensing and regulatory requirements for new business initiatives
  • Respond accurately and promptly to business partner inquiries, conducting legal research and initial contract reviews
    • Prepare and manage litigation holds, supporting the team in settlement management
    • Enforce Insider/Securities Trading Policy compliance
  • Develop and maintain manuals and procedures
  • Identify and address process inefficiencies to enhance customer service and compliance
  • Foster positive relationships with business partners for successful compliance and strategic objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Paralegal certification (required)
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a government, regulatory, corporate legal or law firm environment (required)
    • PACE Accreditation (preferred)
    • Experience with transactions, compliance, mergers & acquisitions (preferred)
    • Experience working directly with/for internal business partners and executive management (required)
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to post-secondary, proprietary educational institutions (highly preferred)
  • Prior experience with ’34 Act Reporting, including Section 16 reporting (highly preferred)

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on-site a UTI location
  • Remote and hybrid (remote and onsite) worksites are available; Employees must meet minimum technical standards for eligibility and participation
  • Salary range $71,500/yr - $95,000/yr depending on experience
