Overview

The Facilities Director is responsible for the overall campus maintenance of our 100,000 square foot Dallas/Ft. Worth campus.  The ideal candidate for our Facilities Director must possess a strong understanding of facilities and maintenance operations as well as have extensive leadership experience including directly leading and developing a team of three or more employees. UTI prides itself on the remarkable condition of our facilities and expects that same level of pride and commitment from the Facilities Director as well. We also expect our Facilities Director to have the ability to create and maintain a safe working environment for students and employees and offer a high level of customer service while ensuring campus security. Additionally, she/he must be able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions and come up with timely, practical and cost effective solutions for dealing with issues while collaborating in a customer-focused manner with other campus departments.

Responsibilities

  • Directs a team responsible for the maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds, including renovations, expansions, and improvements.
  • Develops/oversees schedules for preventative maintenance and ensures that facilities are inspected regularly to identify current and potential maintenance needs. Ensures repairs comply with internal policies and external regulations [EPA, OSHA, NATEF, ACCSC etc.].
  • Ensures and maintains a clean, safe and productive environment for staff and students.
  • Leads and supports asset protection and safety actions, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages P&L for facility department and makes recommendations for cost containment.
  • Partners with Purchasing to solicit bids; selects contractors/subcontractors, and negotiates bids for project renovation or construction of facilities. Manages vendor relations 
  • Manages staffing, training/certifications, development and performance of maintenance department, ensuring that staff is informed of changes that affect maintenance.
  • Oversees management responsibilities for campus IT personnel, technical responsibilities will report to IT matrix leader.
  • Performs the obligations of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) including data collection and reporting under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act”.
  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics. 
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5-7 years of experience in building maintenance.
  • 1-3 years of managerial experience
  • Licensed and/or certified in one or more of the following areas is preferred; HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or general contractor.

Skills

  • Interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Intermediate level in functional skills; HVAC, painting, electrical, plumbing, welding, safe use of power and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are essential.
  • Ability to provide flexible and adaptable work schedules.
  • Ability to maintain professional image and work environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with Campus Leaders, internal and external partners.

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 25% or less of the workday.
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday.
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

 

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Regular business hours, occasional overtime and travel.
  • On Call availability.
