Overview

The BMW STEP Instructor is responsible for delivering BMW and MINI Service Technician Education Programs to assigned students through classroom instruction, hands-on tasks, and workshop exercises. This role requires maintaining BMW facilitator certification standards and continuously enhancing technical expertise through independent study of training manuals, vehicle systems, and related materials. The instructor ensures the professional organization and appearance of student areas, demonstration workshops, training vehicles, and educational aids. Additional responsibilities include supporting vehicle maintenance, performing administrative tasks related to training vehicles, and contributing to curriculum development by providing structured feedback to the STEP team.

  • Hands-On Training: Lead by example and provide practical demonstrations, ensuring students gain real-world experience in diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with our education team to enhance existing courses and develop new ones that align with industry trends and advancements.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor students on their projects, encouraging them to think critically and find innovative solutions.
  • Safety First: Instill the importance of safety procedures and best practices to ensure a secure working environment for students.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED (required)
  • Vocational school certificate or associates degree in Applied Sciences (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science or other related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of field experience and five (5) years experience as instructor in technical/soft skills (preferred)
  • Specific BMW or other luxury European experience (preferred)

 

  • Expertise in the area of assignment that demonstrates the skills needed to provide instruction
  • Design and deliver engaging educational content, adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles
  • Build rapport with students, clinical partners, and colleagues, fostering a positive learning environment
  • Flexibility to stay current with industry advancements and incorporate new knowledge into teaching practices
  • Competence in evaluating student performance and providing constructive feedback
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective instruction and interaction with students and colleagues
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and participation in professional growth opportunities
  • Basic to intermediate productivity software skills (MS Word, Outlook, Adobe, etc.)

  • Ability to safely operate and drive a vehicle with a manual transmission
  • Frequently (80% or more of workday)
    • Use hearing and sight (both near and far vision)
    • Communicate with students and provide direct instruction
  • Occasionally (up to 50% of workday)
    • Use fine motor skills to operate personal computers, manual and electrical (dental, nursing, etc.) equipment, as well as various diagnostic or procedure equipment
  • Rarely (less than 20% of workday)
    • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with the assistance of mechanical interventions, students, or other employees
    • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to provide instruction in labs and demonstrate procedures
  • Ability to speak, read and write German (preferred)

 

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
  • This position is designated as On Campus or On site; Work environments may include exposure to student learning environments with a variety of conditions. Employees must be able to follow all safety precautions including the use of personal-protective equipment. Employees must also be able to adhere to site-specific safety procedures.
  • Overnight and/or Local travel required (up to 10%)
