Overview

In addition to the day-to-day role of Financial Aid Director, the Senior Financial Aid Director provides leadership support for the campus teams and other Financial Aid Directors within the organization on an as needed basis. This leader also provides subject matter expertise within the field of Financial Aid on a regular, ongoing basis. The Senior Financial Aid Director may also be called upon to lead other Financial Aid teams when a vacancy occurs within the organization. Finally, this role assists the Home Office team with the development and delivery of key strategic projects to support the timely and effective execution of organization wide projects in partnership with key leaders from other functional groups and the Financial Aid teams.

Responsibilities

Senior Financial Aid Director:

  • Assists in the execution of strategic projects in partnership with the Home Office team.
  • Assists in the development and rollout of policy and procedure changes, including developing and presenting training presentations
  • Establishes and maintains excellent communication and relationships with the home office team and fellow Financial Aid Directors
  • Provides leadership support for the Financial Aid Directors and Financial Aid departments as needed, which may include significant travel in the event that a campus has a leadership vacancy or requires in-depth training.
  • Provides subject matter expertise for the Financial Aid teams (resource for questions, clarification, training, staff development, etc.)
  • Partners with the National FAD to ensure campus compliance with documented policies and procedures for consistency and adherence to federal and state regulations and accreditation standards, as well as standards pertaining to FERPA, VA Principles of Excellence, etc.
  • Partners with the National FAD to analyze key campus indicators (retention, completion, show rate, etc.) by identifying trends and developing and driving appropriate solutions.
  • Assist with the Onboarding and training of new Financial Aid Directors and other Financial Aid staff.
  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics. 
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field 
  • Minimum 10 years in higher education setting (required)
  • Minimum 5 years leadership or management experience (required)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in the Financial Aid office of a public or approved post-secondary school as a Director or in a senior leadership role (required)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an administrative position in the Financial Aid office of a public or approved private post-secondary school (preferred)

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are essential.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial aid regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional decorum.
  • Knowledge of personal computer software applications including Word, Excel, and Access.

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday
  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • May require overnight travel. 

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
